KING LION SOUNDS was established in 1989 at a residence in Ngara Nairobi, after the infamous raid of the then only Reggae dance hall Hollywood Club where Roots Inity, a joint sound system comprising all Reggae Sounds A Yaard. Founding Members were Papa Lefty R.I.P, Aronzo Bongoman (R.I.P), Papa Chally, Jahkey
Malle, Ras Eugene R.I.P. Man Agush, Neville, Man Apollo R.I.P, Bosco, amongst others, Jahkey Malle started his own Jahmbo Sounds, Eugene and Bosco repatriated to their native Rwanda.
Our first base was BLUE SPOT HOTEL near the Ngara residence and due to great public demand, we moved to the more spacious BRILLIANT HOTEL (HOUSE OF A DREAD), the biggest reggae dance hall to date, courtesy of Papa Chally, soon the 2000 pax capacity hall was being overwhelmed by the massive number of patrons especially at end months, due
to this we started Monthly theme nights @ Nairobi City hall Like Rasta Festival, Bob's day, Tosh Day, 3big sounds etc. and Estate Tours all over Kenya and Beyond. The patronage increased by the multitudes and soon KING LION recruited new sound boys, Jua kali and Dj Ombisch,, in 1994 saw the introduction of Two Young talents who were to take the Reggae Scene by Storm..KING TUBBS And KING MONDAY R.I.P. and the rest as they say is History, in 1995 after the passing on of the founder PAPA LEFTY, we introduced new sound boys under the tutelage of King Tubbs, These talented youths included Daddy Bosch, Rank Achok R.I.P, Prince Otach ( 1st ever Emcee inside KIng Lion Sounds), Prof Nuts, Daddy Poa, King Biggy and many, many others, 4 more details check out kinglionsound.com.
